San Mateo

San Mateo is located 20 miles south of San Francisco. The county has ideal weather with year-round temperatures averaging 68 degrees. San Mateo has a wealth of cultural activities and events, as well as recreational opportunities. Maintaining the quality of life remains a key goal for our community and the City’s strategic business plan for economic development is designed to achieve this goal.

Shopping

Hillsdale Mall is the all-encompassing shopping area for San Mateo. The directory includes large department (Nordstrom, Macy’s), small boutique (Lucky Brand Jeans), high end (Coach) and low end (H&M) stores. Adding a notch to the upscale: Michael Kors will open a store here in September 2012. Avoid driving near the mall during Christmas unless you want to raise your blood pressure. San Mateo also has an outdoor shopping center, Bridgepointe which includes anchor tenants like Target, Sports Authority, Old Navy, Marshalls and more.

Education

Residents are zoned for schools in the San Mateo Foster City School District and San Mateo Union High School District. Elementary schools comprise Preschool, K-5, Middle and Magnet schools. There are three public high schools: San MateoAragon, and Hillsdale. There is also one private, all-male Catholic high school, Junípero Serra.
